KLIEMT.HR Lawyers advises Getir on strategic reorientation

Quick commerce company Getir has reorganised itself in the course of a further financing round and focused on the core market of Turkey. For Germany, where Getir was still active with the Gorillas brand in addition to its core brand, the company relied on its proven collaboration with KLIEMT.HR Lawyers.

Getir, founded in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2015, is the pioneer of on-demand delivery services for groceries. The start-up quickly achieved “unicorn status” due to its success and was valued at USD 12 billion at its peak. In December 2022, Getir acquired the delivery service Gorillas for around one billion euros and significantly expanded its network once again.

After the market conditions for technology companies changed significantly in 2023, Getir decided in July and August 2023 to make personnel adjustments and implement a strategic consolidation. As with the previous integration of the Gorillas sites, KLIEMT.HR Lawyers also supported Getir with these measures, including negotiations on a collective volunteer program and its implementation, as well as some subsequent court proceedings.

In April 2024, Getir decided to focus on its core business and withdraw from the expansion markets, particularly in Europe. The orderly wind-down of the German national company required a reduction in staff of over 1,200 employees at the head office and the numerous warehouses within a short period of time. Unlike other competitors, Getir relies on its own employees and not on gig workers as delivery drivers.

KLIEMT.Arbeitsrecht also supported Getir in this respect with a team led by partner Till Heimann and helped to ensure that the restructuring was completed within a few weeks. By utilising benchmark data with regard to market- and addressee-oriented conditions, it was possible to restructure almost the entire staff reduction through voluntary termination agreements and thus avoid legal and time delay risks.
